BLACK THOUGHT’S GRASSROOTS ORGANIZATION TO HOST ANNUAL CHARITY CONCERT Questlove, Rich Medina, DJ Diamond Kuts & More, Join GrassROOTS to Raise Money For Women and Girls! PHILADELPHIA, February 6, 2012 – On February, 18, 2012 Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter, co-founder and lead MC of the legendary group, the Roots, will host “Let's Move it Philly!” a charity concert party to raise funds for Black Thought’s GrassROOTS Community Foundation. Guests will party to the sounds of Rich Medina, DJ Diamond Kuts, Nikki Jean, Money Making Jam Boys, Questlove, and Black Thought of the LEGENDARY Roots Crew at the historic Sigma Sound Stage located on 212 North 12th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107. “Let’s Move It!” Philadelphia is the first step in a 10 city initiative that will address childhood obesity in the African American community. Almost one in every three children in our nation is obese or overweight; these rates are even higher in African American and Hispanic communities were 40% of children fall into this category. While hip-hop culture has been blamed for fueling poor health choices amongst its supporters, “Let’s Move It Philly!” aims to use hip-hop as a means to spread awareness about this growing epidemic. This concert attracts a melting pot of people including professors, musicians, activists, social workers, and students who all come together to share their love of hip-hop and show their support in the fight to end childhood obesity in underserved communities. Proceeds from the 2012 concert will benefit C.H.I.C.K.S. (Creating Healthy Informed Confident Knowledgeable Selves) a GrassROOTS after school program for girls at Harding Middle School located in the Frankford section of the city.
