APT IS OPEN TONIGHT! LI'L RICKY'S WILL ROCK FROM 11 til 4AM!

Fam

Sorry for the double mailing this week…but, once again just for clarity, tonight is indeed happening at APT!

Li’l Ricky’s returns for our weekly dosage of the best sound NYC has to offer. Know That!!!

But also know this…

The views expressed here are those of me, Rich Medina, and no one else. There is a new security staff and pat down policy that NYPD is forcing on the venue. The venue has no choice in the matter, so your patience is requested up front. Lord knows we don’t want any trouble with the lovely and loyal patrons who have made us what we’ve become. With that, you should leave all your “extra credit stimulations” at home. I say this because the word is that anyone caught “riding dirty” will be held, and very possibly arrested on the spot. I pass this on for the sake of all of us being able to slowly but surely bring things back to normal after what has been an anything but normal month at APT. I’m honestly unclear as to whether or not the downstairs bar is back in action or not yet, but if not, that hasn’t really been a problem for us anyway. The real issue is making sure that our Wednesday night clientele understand that there is a new security protocol in play, and to ensure that none of our peoples play themselves by trying anything slick, or out of line. If we do our thing like the real party people we all are, tonight should jump off lovely without a hitch! Thanks for the ears, and here’s to it! Check last week’s blog for more event news and info until the next blog. This blog will not go out via email since I’ve already sent one this week and I don’t wanna be considered “spam man # 3,000”.

Tomorrow night come to Love in NYC to check out WHAT THE FUNK?!  A new collaboration between myself and DJ Spinna where we combine the power of his James Brown Tribute MAKE IT FUNKY, and my Fela Kuti Tribute JUMP N FUNK!!!! That’s at Love on 8th & MacDougal in NYC on Thursday October 30th!

And lastly, there is NO OPEN THIS FRIDAY at Santos Party House. They are doing their own private Halloween event, and our event is not a part of it. We return on Nov 4th for Q Tip’s LP Release Party for The Reniasance, and Friday Nov 7th for Open, and back in te saddle weekly after that. Hope to see you out soon, and one enormous love.

Respect

What it do mates? Apologies for the image loading issues, and

Jumped off the plane at Heathrow at 830pm, blew through customs lovely, jumped on some stir fry right quick, and then rolled over to East Village for the party. Incredible night. Phil and Pat, thanks for allowing me to be a part of Patrick’s Japanese send off ! All the best to you and yours in Japan Patrick!

OPEN NEWS
Friday night, Santos Party House held a CMJ event upstairs, and Open was held in the basement for one night. Big love to all our regulars who came downstairs and got busy with us. Tip was out of town promoting his new LP “The Reniassance” this past Friday, but don’t you fret, he returns this coming Friday. The record comes out on Election Day, November 4th. Speaking of November 4th, leave all your campaign gear at home ( campaigning is not allowed by law on election day, so don’t forfeit your vote by rocking any political garments people. Trust me), go vote for Obama, and then go cop that Q Tip LP!

Open returns to Santos Party House on November 4th and 7th! Santos Party House is having a private Halloween party on October 31st, so we got this Friday off. Happy Halloween, and we’ll see you all back at Santos on Tuesday Nov 4th for the Obama Presidency Celebration, and Q Tip’s LP Release Party!

APT NEWS
Our sincerest apologies for not making any announcements about the recent bar and closing issues at APT. I didn’t really feel it was my place to speak on it until things began to settle down and make more sense.

With that, APT reopened it’s doors this past Friday night. I’m in Europe, and haven’t heard any reviews yet, but I do know that…
1. There is a new security staff in place by order of the city.
2. There will indeed be a zero tolerance policy on foolishness ( read into it if you must) of any sort, for an undisclosed period of time, starting now.
3. We will indeed be back in business on Wednesday nights starting this week on October 29th, rocking on like we usually do.
4. Don’t get caught riding dirty in there, or it’s wrap not only for you, but anyone within a foot of you as well.

JUMP N FUNK
Philly’s Jump N Funk on October 10th was beautiful! One love to my 215 peoples who showed so much love!
NYC on October 16th was incredible too. There were some timing issues though. Siji’s show didn’t begin until 10 minutes after our show was supposed to start. The show was incredible no doubt though. Go cop that Siji LP “Adesiji” as soon as possible! But nonetheless, it took an hour away from our party and presentation. Once the ball got rolling, I played for 45 minutes, and then Zozo Afrobeat took the stage for an hour plus to some beautiful call and response from the crowd. In the end, the DJing didn’t really begin until after 1am due to the overall slowing of the night. My apologies to any and all who’ve written expressing their desire to hear more DJ selections that night. Rest assured the next event will be stage managed more effectively, and we’ll get back to basics like we usually do. Love Afro Life!
Washington DC’s installation wasn’t as much Jump N Funk in DC as much as it was me being a special guest at The Black President’s Day Celebration. Still in all, the space was beautiful, the people were open, and the sound was tight. One love to Kat ( LilSoSo) and Sammy ( The Warehouse) for having me, and here’s to the next episode.

Since 1997, DJs Rich Medina and Bobbito Garcia have collabed behind the turntables to the great pleasure of crowds in NYC and Philly. In ‘02, the two decided to start “Leaving This Planet” which had a torrid run at Manhattan’s Table 50 until the club closed in ‘05. In ‘07, they renamed the party “Happy Feet” and moved it to the Lower East Side’s Element, where it became the most talked about event of that summer. Recently, HF traveled to Los Angeles and San Franciso, and claimed a new home at Santos Party House. The pair blend genres seamlessly, so that a dancer, or listener, can experience Afro-Beat, Latin, Jazz, Dance, Breaks, progressive Hip Hop, and Soul in an unprecedented presentation. The achieved result is a entertaining night for the most die-hard rare groove fans to casual clubgoer—everyone leaves with happy feet!

Next Happy Feet: TBA

MORE OCTOBER NEWS AFTER SUNDAY NIGHT FAM! PEACE AND LOVE!
